One of the first steps toward successful parent involvement
in schools is participation in school orientation sessions and open
house activities traditionally held near the start of the school
ear. Parents (including school board members), can get an
important understanding of what expectations a teacher has for a child
and how the parent can support a child's learning experience.
Schools continually seek volunteers. There are roles to play for
everyone. Parents reading to children make a difference in
primary grades. Businesses offering mentors or internship
experiences supplement lessons from the classrooms. School
Quality Councils utilize parent and business representatives to help
make decisions regarding programs and operations.
Parent/Education Groups help coordinate extra programs and services to
children. Contact your local school for more information on
volunteer opportunities. |
